Privacy policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Last updated October 4, 2026

The short version

We collect only what we need to help you care for, find, and remember your pets. We never sell your personal information. Exact home addresses are never shown publicly. Missing-pet alerts show an approximate area only.

Information you give us

Account details such as your name and email. Pet profiles, photos, stories, and memorials you create. Missing or found reports, including the approximate location and contact method you choose. Messages you send to providers, and payments for premium features, which our payment processor handles.

Information collected automatically

Basic device and usage data, such as pages visited and the approximate city from your IP address, so we can show nearby alerts, services, and communities. If you tap "Use my location", we use your precise location only for that search and do not store it.

How we use it

To run the service. To show local alerts, listings, and relevant sponsored messages. To prevent fraud and abuse. To publish the Impact Ledger, which contains only aggregate figures. We use referral links to recommend providers and products. When you follow one, we record the referral without sharing your identity with the partner.

Sharing

We share information with service providers who help us operate, such as hosting, payments, and email, under contract. We share it with providers you choose to contact, and when the law requires it. Public content, such as memorials and alerts you publish, is visible to anyone, and you can make it private or delete it at any time.

Your choices and rights

You can access, correct, export, or delete your data from your account, or by emailing us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as PIPEDA, GDPR, or CCPA. We respond to verified requests within 30 days.

Retention

We keep your information while your account is active. Missing-pet alerts are archived 90 days after they are resolved. Memorials stay online until you remove them. Deleted content leaves our backups within 35 days.

Children

NearMe Pets is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
